Summer Reading List
The following is a list of books that your new second grader may enjoy reading this summer. While you are not required to read them all, you are certainly welcome to enjoy reading as many as you would like. The authors whose works are listed have created many other age appropriate titles. Feel free to read their other works as well.
Please encourage your child to read on his/her own, but it’s okay to help them out by reading to them as well. Children of all ages enjoy being read to and reading to children leads them wanting to read on their own. Happy Reading!
WAYS TO ENJOY READING
· Listen to a book being read aloud.
· Take turns reading to a friend or parent.
· Read the book by yourself and tell someone about your favorite parts.
· Record yourself reading the book a second time. Listen to the audio.
· Make a list of the books you have read. Use a code to indicate how you felt about each book.
· Visit the library and explore the section with information books.
· Check out a poetry book and make copies of your favorite poems.
