Grade 4

September 2010

Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome to another school year at St. Anthony! I am looking forward to a great year with this class, and I know that we will have lots of energy, enthusiasm and fun. During the year we will have games, competitions, rewards and hands on experiences that reinforce my philosophy that learning can be fun.

Fourth grade also is preparation for middle school, and the new challenges the students will face.

Below are some key points to remember:

Homework
Homework will normally be assigned Monday through Thursday, and should take 40 – 60 minutes to complete. It is expected that the homework will be done neatly and completely. Parents should check their child’s assignment pad each night, and check and sign their homework. Please encourage your child’s sense of responsibility in getting their assignments completed. There are also ongoing projects and book reports assigned with a ‘due date’. Late completions can lower grade!

Goals
There are several goals for the children this year. The primary goal is, of course, that they develop a sense of who they are in relation to God and their peers. They should learn to be caring individuals who can work together in harmony, and treat every person as they wish to be treated.

Second, the students should develop a love of reading that will last them a lifetime. Our reading series is delightful, offers many opportunities for creative writing experiences, and extended reading activities. During the first couple of weeks we will be discussing the summer reading books, so make sure your child completes their three selections.

Third, our math series will help instill a love of numbers in the children. We will use a variety of manipulatives, games, drills and contests to help them develop skills and ease with numbers. Practicing and memorizing their multiplication tables before returning to school will be an important benefit!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns during the school year please feel free to contact me at any time!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Rose Galeotti
