GRADE 5 - SUMMER READING
Students entering Grade 5 at St. Anthony’s school should read the following books:
1. Old Yeller by Fred Gipson, Steven Polson
2. Crispin – The Cross of Lead by Avi
3. The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster
These books are available in the public library, at most bookstores, and on amazon.com. You need not purchase the book if you would prefer to borrow it from the library.
Upon completion of the book you are required to create a one page typed summary of the book which should also include your opinion of the book. This is due on the first day of school.
We will begin the year by doing several activities based on the books you are reading and we will participate in class discussions on each book.
I strongly recommend that you begin reading these books as soon as school is out and summarize them as you complete them. I think you will enjoy them as much as I did.
I hope you all have a lovely and safe summer. Please do not stop reading if you finish these books….READ, READ, READ…..it is so important and great exercise for your brain! Enjoy!
Love,
Mrs. Fleming
