Sacraments
In a document published by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops entitled, “To Teach As Jesus Did” in the section about Catholic Schools, the bishops recognized the following: “It (the Catholic School) makes more accessible to students, participation in the liturgy and the sacraments, which are powerful forces for the development of personal sanctity and for the building of community.”
Therefore, the preparation for the sacraments of Penance and First Holy Communion, as well as the frequent opportunities for students to partake of both sacraments is a responsibility that we take seriously and joyfully.
Our second graders will be receiving First Penance during the month of January this year, and First Eucharist the first two Saturdays in May.
In addition, the students from Grades 3-8 are offered the opportunity for Reconciliation during the school year as well as Communion at every liturgy which the school attends.
In its teaching of doctrine, community and service St. Anthony’s strives to achieve the mission given by the Catholic Bishops, “The Catholic School is the unique setting within which this ideal can be realized in the lives of Catholic children and young people.”
