Mrs. Sopira - Art

We are looking forward to a fun-filled year in art class, in every grade.  My goal is to expose all students, from K through Grade 8,  to art theory, art appreciation, art history and art criticism.  In addition the core curriculum subjects are integrated into the art curriculum to give all students a complete learning experience.

  K – 4 th

The lower elementary has learned that “line” is one of the Elements of Art. All classes focused on line in their creations. We have created art in the style of one of my favorite artists – Vincent Van Gogh. Kindergarten created “Starry Night” and 1st grade created the “Cypress.” Both classes used oil pastels and the completed works are beautiful. 2nd grade designed and painted “Watercolor Castles.” 3rd grade completed a wonderful composition titled, “Royal Dogs.” Their drawing skills have definitely improved. 4th grade learned about “Idioms” and focused on the technique of illustration.

We will be moving on to painting and clay as the year progresses.

Middle School -

5th grade learned that pattern is important in creating texture in art. Texture is one of the Elements of Art. They created some great lobsters. 6th and 7th grade both learned one point perspective. 8th grade also completed projects utilizing line and shape.

We will be moving on to color theory in grades 5 – 8.

We will explore these mediums and styles together with many illustrations and models.  The appreciation and creation of art is an excellent way to show our multiple intelligences.
