Middle States Accreditation
The Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools is an organization that appraises schools in terms of organization, personnel, facilities and materials of instruction.
Our first accreditation was in 1993, and St. Anthony's was evaluated and found to offer the type of program that services the students and community with a strong philosophy and excellence in its educational program.
In 2003, St. Anthony's underwent a re-evaluation since ten years had passed. The goal that was recognized was a research project undertaken by the staff to learn about, research and possibly implement Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Books were read, discussions followed and the staff decided to undertake this project of implementation.
In the years that followed, lessons were planned and targetted on the multiple intelligences, projects were planned with this in mind, and an all school showcase was planned each year to show the work that each grade was doing in working with this theory.
Three years later, in 2006, it was decided that another goal would be added - that of the creation of a Middle School. A separate program for Grades 5-8 was instituted, one which set the goals of responsibility and service as a hallmark for these students in preparation for high school. Various programs and offering (e.g., lockers, separate lunchtime, etc.) were given to the Middle School students as well as opportunities for service. In the years that followed work was done in the endeavor of making a connection of Middle School with the younger students and these efforts have been very successful.
