Terra Nova Scores for 2009

In the Spring of 2009, our students from Grades 2-7 were administered the standardized testing exams known as the Terra Novas.
These tests are given once per year, and two years ago we included the 2nd grade in this testing.  Besides looking for comparison with other schools in the Diocese, the Terra Novas offer a gauge of which subject areas and skills could use further attention for this year.
When we take a look at the various subject profiles which are created for every test given, the charts show the progress of our students here at St. Anthony’s School and areas to improve.
Beginning with the second grade, the student compare very favorably with the Diocese and Suburban Schools. In the area of Social Studies and Reading our school is on a par with the other second grades in the Diocese of Paterson. In the area of Science, our second grade scores significantly above both Diocesan and Suburban schools. The areas where work will be focused upon this year include Math and Language skills    For third grade the scores are significantly above Diocesan and Suburban schools in the areas of Word Analysis, Science, Math, and Language. We are also pleased to see that our students are above the Diocesan level in Reading. Areas to focus upon will include Social Studies and Spelling.
For fourth grade there were very good scores above the Diocesan level in Reading and Social Studies. Areas to focus upon will include Science, Math and Language.
Fifth grade scores were above the Diocesan and Suburban Schools average in Math, Language and Reading. Social Studies scores were also above the Diocesan average. Areas upon which we will focus attention include Spelling and Science.
For sixth grade, all scores were above the Diocesan average, and Math was well above the Suburban average. Some continued practice on Reading skills would be beneficial.
Grade seven scores showed very good progress. Scores in all subject areas were at or above the Diocesan average and Social Studies, Science, Math and Reading were on a par with the Suburban Schools averages.
For 2010 the Terra Nova testing will take place in the Spring and we are working to show additional improvement.
